MESH Report November 28, 2023

The MESH team included our usual threesome of Linda Ariel, Lou Hammerman and me (Sarita Eisenberg) plus Alex Kent – a reunion of sorts as we had all just been together on the Civil Rights trip.

I had been thinking of changing the menu – but my calculations showed that the new idea would cost more and potentially take more time to prepare; so I nixed the change, Instead we prepared our usual menu – barbeque chicken drumsticks with sides of roasted potatoes and cole slaw.

We finished in even less time than usual – just under 2 hours! That was thanks to Alex who plowed through chopping the potatoes and other tasks. And to the strategy that Lynne Kurzweil had previously suggested of organizing 50 sets of fixings – each including a cup of coleslaw, apple sauce cup, roll, package of Oreo cookies, water bottle and utensil package – ready to be bagged as soon as the main meal was packed.

Thank you to Lynne Kurzweil for offering to deliver the packed food.

I want to again acknowledge the Fooderie in West Orange, which provides us with a discount on the chicken.

Sincerely,
Sarita

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for Hope) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donatemesh.
