From Captain Lynne Kurzweil

Meanwhile back at Union Baptist Church we welcomed 22 guests to Shomrei’s MESH Cafe. Coming inside to a warm and welcoming environment our guests were treated first to Merrill Silver’s delicious Carrot, Parsnip and Potato Soup. Main course was a very hearty Beef Stew prepared by Arden Epstein. Fresh French baguette provided by Shirley Grill accompanied the stew. Chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookies and clementines, also provided by Shirley, ended the meal on a sweet note.

400x200-dale-russakoff
Dear Members and Friends of Congregation Shomrei Emunah:

Each year Shomrei Emunah’s Ad Journal honors congregants who have had a significant impact on our community.  It is my privilege to inform you that this year’s honorees are the people of Shomrei—the volunteers who bring solace, safety and joy to our congregants and to others in the wider community through the Mensch Squad and IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network).  And this peaceful army of mensches is led by our own Dale Russakoff who has kept these vitally important services going at Shomrei. “Thank You” at Thanksgiving

Aileen Grossberg

Aileen Grossberg

Thanksgiving is a day for thanks although we Jews often give our thank yous at the New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

So I am taking this opportunity to put the THANKS back into Thanksgiving and express my thanks to people involved in activities that I have a stake in.

So thank you to all the volunteers who help to get food on the table for those weekly kiddushes. Even when I am not directly involved, I thank them. Without our volunteers we would have no bountiful weekly spreads and the fellowship that comes with sharing a meal.

From Captain Shirley Grill

Another successful dinner.  We served a full house–22 adults and three children. The meal was prepared by Jennifer Moses, who delivered a lovely fish dinner. Dinner started with Carrot Ginger soup and challah–a great way to warm up on a chilly evening. The main was Tilapia filets over a bed of rice and a side of brussel sprouts. Desert was homemade apple sauce and cookies.

Busy busy in the New JLC!

Yasher Koach on a wonderful welcome back (indoor!) BBQ and first day of JLC!  The students were overwhelmingly positive about the change in the building and program (Wow! was a common response upon seeing the new furniture/rooms!)  The rooms looked great, the teachers were warm and wonderful, and the students had amazing energy.  I am thrilled for the year to come. Assistant Education Directors, Lily Lucey and Aylah Winter were both wonderful in their interactions with students and parents, and I think everyone is responding to having such a capable team in place.
